The time to plan the family vacation has rolled around once again. This year we need to plan around a family reunion in Blacksburg ,Virginia. The area of Blacksburg and Christiansburg is really beautiful in the summer. Blacksburg is the home of Virginia Tech University.
We thought since we would be close we would take in parts of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The scenery on the parkway is breathtaking. Mabry Mills is a delighful stop, an old corn meal mill sets here, along with trails through beautiful Mountain Laurel. There is an outstanding restaurant at Mabry Mill that serves breakfast and lunch. The sweet potato pancakes are delightful and the service is always superb.Pullouts let you enjoy the panoramic views of miles and miles of breathtaking scenery. A short distance off the parkway is Charlottesville. This is a town I’ve always wanted to visit and we plan to visit there this year. Charlottesville is the home of the University of Virginia and Thomas Jefferson, one of our greatest presidents. His home is called Monticello and is on the outskirts of Charlottesville. Monticello has some outstanding and enduring design features that I’m looking forward to seeing.
The northern end of the parkway joins the Skyline Drive and ends in Front Royal Virginia. We are debating whether we want to visit Washington D.C. for a couple of days while we’re this close, but no decision on that yet. One other sight we do want to visit while we’re on the parkway is Stuart Virginia which is a short drive from Meadows of Dan, another of our favorite haunts while on the parkway. Stuart is the home of Woods Brothers Racing. They have competed in NASCAR since its inception and have had many famous drivers including Bill Elliott from Dawsonville Georgia. Their race facility includes a museum for the public to visit. These are a few of the places we plan to visit this summer, as we add more I’ll keep you updated.
Florida is a great destination during April. The weather is cooperating. It’s cool in the mornings, low 60′s usually. Highs in the afternoons usually in mid to high 80′s. not a cloud in the sky, blue sky, and sunshine, lots of sunshine. This is our spring, everything is blooming and beautiful.
The Florida beaches aren’t too crowded, small surf, great for children to play in. All of the attractions are open and the crowds won’t be heavy until later in the summer. This makes it easy on parents to lie around a pool and let the kids enjoy themselves. Florida loves tourists and there are many great restaurants, hotels, and attractions to enjoy.
Florida has thousands of acres of National forests for those who love to camp and enjoy the wonders and natural beauty of our state. Come visit Florida while the weather is pleasant and the sunshine abundant.
A Mount Dora, Florida doctor posted a sign on his office saying that if you voted for Obama, get your healthcare elsewhere. That sounds drastic, racist, and foolish for a business man to ask present customers and patients to go elsewhere.
But hold on a minute; doesn’t he as a small business owner and that’s what a doctor is, a small business person.Even though some of them think they’re above that and on par with God for some reason. This Mt. Dora doctor has the right to disagree with the passage of the health care bill. You better believe they have the right to disagree. You have the right to disagree with his opinion and go elsewhere. Why call him a racist? Obama didn’t pass the health care law. The congress we elected and sent to Washington D.C. to do our bidding passed the law. This in spite of the fact that the majority of the American public disagreed with the passage of the law. The last time I looked the congress was made up of a majority of wrong headed white people. Where does the racism come from? That’s what anyone who disagrees with this administration is called. Doesn’t make sense, but we’re not allowed to disagree any more. Our right to disagree was taken away without us knowing it. If you don’t agree with homosexual marriage, you’re racist. If you didn’t agree with bailing out the big banks you’re racist. In other words this administration will not tolerate another opinion, if it doesn’t walk in lock step with the official stance on any given issue. Does this sound familiar to you history buffs? It should America. This is the same way many other wrong headed leaders led their countries down a path of utter destruction.
